Hi there! I am Luis Miguel Báez 👋
I am a Systems and Computer Engineer from the National University of Colombia (UNAL).
I have experience working as a Software Engineer at high-growth startups and large tech companies. I specialize in backend development, high-scalability systems, and optimization.
-
Back-End Software Engineer at Instaleap: (Oct 2022 - Present)
- I work at a high-growth startup with a small team but high impact.
- I handle high-scalability systems that support millions of users, using very agile workflows.
-
Back-End Software Engineer at IBM: (Jan 2022 - Sep 2022 · 9 mos)
- Backend Software Engineer + Integration.
- I worked on moving old APIs and Microservices to Node.js.
- Database Optimization: I improved a database replication process, reducing the time from 12 hours to only 1 hour.
-
Software Engineer Intern at IBM: (Jul 2021 - Dec 2021 · 6 mos)
- Software Engineer Intern + Integration.
-
Research: I published a paper about my open-source tool for automated testing.
"Quick Test CLI: A Cross‑Platform for Automated Testing in Competitive Programming"
I wrote a paper about a tool I built to help programmers test their algorithms.
👉 Read it here: DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.17803503
Here are the tools and languages I use most often:
| Category | Technologies |
|---|---|
| Languages | Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), C/C++, Rust, Java, Go |
| AI / ML / GenAI | LLM prompt engineering, LangChain/LangGraph |
| DB / Storage | PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis (cache / vector hybrid) |
| Cloud / Infra & Orchestration | Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, AWS / GCP, OpenShift (Basic) |
| DevOps / Observability | CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), Docker, Git, Unix, Grafana, New Relic |
| Edge / IoT / Hardware & Accelerators | CUDA, WebAssembly Rust, Arduino |
- Quick Test CLI: A tool to run stress tests for competitive programming. It helps users check if their code is correct and fast.
- C++ Algorithm Snippets: A collection of advanced algorithms and data structures in C++. I also wrote a Python script to make them easy to use in VSCode and Vim.
- 2nd Place - Ironhacks Competition 2018: A hackathon organized by Purdue University. I built a web app using Node.js and Google Maps API to visualize 100,000 data points.
