Stretch Questions

1. What is the difference between an inline element and a block element?
Block elements take the available full width and always start with a new line.
Inline elements take only the required width and do not start with a new line.
We cannot nest inline elements inside block elements.
We can nest inline and block elements inside block elements.
2. What happens when an element is positioned absolutely?
It is placed in an exact location on the page, in a fixed specified offset from it's first positioned ancestor, or from the body element if it doesn't have one.
3. How do I make an element take up only the amount of space it needs but also have the ability to give it a width?
Using the "display: inline-block" property and giving it the width we want.
4. Name 3 elements that are diplay block by default, 2 elements that are display inline by default and 1 element that is display inline-block by default
Block: h1, p, div
Inline: a, img
Inline-block: button
5. In your own words, explain the box model. What is the fix for the box model?
The box model is a way for controling the spacing, space allocation and styling of this space of our elements. This also affects the element's position in the page.
Our content is given a space (we set width and height) and it is surrounded by a border.
Between content and border there is some space called padding, and out of the border a margin is defined, which is the distance the border has from it's closest elements in the page.
Each of this areas is given a space (which can also be set to 0 for any of them) and so we can control spacing and position of our content. We can also style each of these areas.
One issue is that each space given to each of these areas, adds to the total space of our box, and this can be difficult to control.
To fix this, we can set the border area to be the actual border of the box, with the property "box-sizing: border-box;"
