When you filtered by year, it should also show a sorted bar chart or pie chart for genres. This would allow you to meet your usage scenario, because it would also allow you to see which genres have surged in popularity and the frequency as to which the most popular genres are for that given year. This would allow your target user to more effectively make data driven decisions as to which genres are currently trending.

I think one of the ways you can implement this is perhaps summary statistics in your dashboard that update based off of the filters you apply. So for example, you could have 2/3 cards for average BPM, loudness, energy etc depending on the filters applied. This could be useful because it would allow users to explore if these characteristics matter for the top charting hits from year to year or not.
