2.7.1 Patch Notes
New Features:
==QUALITY OF LIFE==
- Can turn on a new option in the 5th options page that will make music resume where it was before a battle after the battle finishes instead of restarting the music completely. Good for when you're encountering a lot of wild pokemon or battling a lot of trainers in a row. You won't have to keep hearing the start of the song only.
==VISUALS==
- Viridian school house b1f was made larger by 1 block on the south side to make it more obvious there is a hallway you can go down.
==AUDIO CHANGES==
- Can turn on a new option in the 5th options page that will make music resume where it was before a battle after the battle finishes instead of restarting the music completely. Good for when you're encountering a lot of wild pokemon or battling a lot of trainers in a row. You won't have to keep hearing the start of the song only.
- Remove the parts of the "hint music" in the secret lab that could confuse the player on what to do and instead just repeat the basic loop.
==MINOR TWEAKS==
- Rival's Venusaur gets Siphon Snag instead of Flash in the final battle.
- Safari ball has Great ball's ball factor 1 now, causing it to be better at catching full health pokemon. Should help in the safari zone's classic mode.
- In Safari Zone CLASSIC mode, encounter rate will be the original encounter rate of 30 in all areas of the safari zone, in case you want to catch pokemon this way it makes things easier for the player to have the original encounter rate instead of a lower one. Encounter rates will stay lower in the other modes.
BUGFIXES
Fixes for Bugs I caused:
- BUG: With OG sprites, the poke ball poof can look a bit weird. FIX: Show a definitely blank tile instead of a "sometimes not blank but usually blank" tile.
- BUG: When fighting IRRADIATED in the pokemon tower basement, when it or your pokemon are poisoned by radiation, the HUD doesn't update immediately. FIX: Draw HUD and HP bars after each pokemon gets poisoned.
- BUG: SGB Mode isn't working on original hardware. FIX: Add back the full-length delay when doing boot SGB commands, as it appears to be necessary.
- BUG: When viewing pokedex entries without opening the pokedex itself first (like when the guy shows you snorlax's entry on the SS Anne, Fuchsia Zoo, or picking your starter) metric units will be messed up visually. FIX: Load the metric tiles correctly in this circumstance
- BUG: After evolving a pokemon via rare candy or a stone tiles will be messed up in a map that has replaced tiles like cerulean ball designer's house. FIX: Load extra tiles in this situation correctly
- BUG: After losing to the karate master in the fighting dojo, the wrong script can be triggered on re-entering the building. FIX: Trigger the after battle script when losing to him as expected.
- BUG: When save transferring, if you have saved mr fuji before transferring, the rocket on the first floor of the pokemon tower is still there. FIX: remove him when loading the map always if you've saved mr fuji.
- BUG: If you encounter a pokemon in the power plant exactly on the switch tiles, after coming back from battle, the switch is triggered before it fades in from white, causing the player to not be able to read the text and have to proceed through it before the code fades in. FIX: Fade in when in this scenario.

2.7.0 Patch Notes
New Features:
==NEW AREAS / EVENTS==
- Learnsets are now unlockable in the game. You can unlock learnsets after obtaining the MOVEDEX by talking to trainers after you beat them, some trainers may give you info on their pokemon! You can also unlock learnsets by finding books that have details about a specific pokemon on bookshelves, and various other ways by exploring the world! Don't worry, if you become an expert with a pokemon, you'll automatically unlock the learnset once you've seen its whole learnset by levelling it up if you haven't gotten it yet! Unlocking a learnset for one pokemon will unlock the learnset for its whole evolutionary family! Select a pokemon in the pokedex and select the MOVE option to view its learnset. You can turn off the learnset feature from the 5th page in the options menu if you don't want them.
- In Cerulean City, you can now find the POKE BALL DESIGNER! The designer needs help with inspiration to design new poke balls! So grab her camera and take her some pictures of inspiring things in the world! Switch the pokeballs your pokemon are in at her tool bench! MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM POKEBALLS WITH CUSTOM AUDIOVISUAL EFFECTS! This is the most in depth poke-ball customization system there's ever been in a pokemon game! (probably) Unlock 16 poof particles, 16 color palettes, 16 throw animations, 16 poof animations, and 16 sound effects you can all customize. Name your custom pokeballs whatever you want! BECOME A PRO POKE BALL DESIGNER! You can turn off this entire feature from the WORLD OPTIONS.
- In Vermilion City, Celadon City, and Saffron City, you can find "catch-up clubs"! These clubs allow you to train lower level pokemon up to a level cap with triple EXP! If you want to switch up your team during a playthrough, this is a good option to do it quickly! Stop grinding wild pokemon! Pokemon past the level cap won't receive any EXP in these clubs, and the trainers here won't make you any money! It's just for training low level pokemon up! You can turn off these areas via the WORLD OPTIONS menu in the player's PC.
- In Fuchsia City, there is a new OAK'S AIDE in the SAFARI ZONE meeting room! Talk to her and if you have caught at least 50 pokemon, she'll upgrade your town map to display wild pokemon data! No need for a wiki, just open your town map and select the place to check what pokemon appear there!
- On Route 12, you can battle a new GAMBLER who loves METRONOME! Embrace the chaos and let him tutor your pokemon the move METRONOME whenever you want!
- Pokemon Center nurses will now recognize you as the CHAMP once you are! They will make amusing comments and treat you as a famous pokemon trainer!

They want you to go beat SABRINA at SAFFRON GYM! Once you do, one of them will tutor you additional moves that used to be TMs: MEGA PUNCH, MEGA KICK, WHIRLWIND, SKULL BASH, SWIFT, EGG BOMB, RAGE, SCREECH. The other one will do you the honour of teaching your ALAKAZAM exactly ONE elemental punch move, and he'll only do it once because it ain't easy!
- The Copycat will now repeatedly tutor your pokemon MIMIC after giving her a poke-doll instead of giving you the substitute TM.
- Mr Psychic will now give the Psychic TM again, but he wants you to beat the fighting dojo first!
==QUALITY OF LIFE==

- The ITEM menu and PC ITEM menu will now show your remaining bag space left. 15/30, 5/60, etc.
- MAX REPEL now entirely disables wild battles while it's active (usually you can still encounter pokemon higher than your first pokemon's level). Makes it better in a way than SUPER REPEL while super repel overall still has a better cost to steps ratio.
- Navigating list menus was improved by improving text printing code. It's snappier now, and some lists now allow wrapping from top to bottom and holding to scroll faster when they didn't before. Pokedex and Movedex scrolling speed and rendering speed has vastly improved and it's a lot smoother.

- Removed needlessly long delay when swapping items in list menus with SELECT
- Yes/No menus put the cursor on NO when you press B if it's not already there for clarity
==VISUALS==
- You can turn on a new custom title screen for Pokemon PureRGB from the 5th Options page. By default the games use the original title screen.

==TRAINER AI CHANGES==

==MOVE CHANGES==
- SCREECH has an added "screeches echoing" effect, when screeches are echoing during battle, pokemon cannot be put to sleep, and any sleeping pokemon will wake up. It also now never misses. This move is automatically used by a pokemon that has it if an opponent attempts to put them to sleep! Say NO to sleep spam if you want!
- SMOKESCREEN doesn't affect fire type pokemon. Have some counterplay options to pokemon spamming SMOKESCREEN.
- SAND ATTACK doesn't affect ground type or flying type pokemon. Have some counterplay options to a pokemon spamming SAND ATTACK.
- HEAT RUSH now has an added 40% chance of raising the SPECIAL stat if the user is a FIRE-type pokemon.
- FILTHY SLAM's power now goes up to 130 if the target is poisoned.
- STATIC SNAG was reworked into the move SIPHON SNAG. This move is still a 75 power ELECTRIC move, but it has a new effect in which it will heal any status on the user by siphoning energy from the opponent. If the user doesn't have a status, it'll heal one of your party member's statuses! Get rid of statuses by using this move strategically!
- ACID now will always either lower the opponent's DEFENSE or ATTACK by one stage. Makes it a bit more useful especially when used by ARBOK who has ACID as a signature move.
- LEECH SEED now will do different damage-per-turn depending on the opponent's resistance to GRASS type. If they...

2.6.4 Patch Notes
BUGFIXES

- BUG: When you receive cubone from the marowak event, it is not marked off on your pokedex. FIX: Mark it.
- BUG: Missingno item duplication can give you 255 of an item in the right scenario, which causes bugs in the game's item menu code. FIX: Only allow a max of 254 by item duplication.

New Features:
==QUALITY OF LIFE==
- The Channeler on the 2nd Floor of pokemon tower (same floor you battle your rival) now wants to borrow your silph scope after you save mr fuji. You can make the channeler hold on to your silph scope until you need to come back to the tower later so it doesn't take up space in your inventory.
BUGFIXES
Fixes for Bugs in the original game:

Fixes for Bugs I caused:
- BUG: After updating a save file from a previous version, seafoam islands can crash. FIX: Fix an invalid script wram variable value on save file update and when entering the specific map.
2.6.0 Patch Notes
New Features:
==NEW AREAS / EVENTS==
-
An Entirely new CINNABAR VOLCANO area was added based off of beta/prerelease content. Based off of an unused map called MOLTRES. CINNABAR VOLCANO is located in the middle of the sea route between PALLET TOWN and CINNABAR ISLAND. You can catch MOLTRES earlier in the game here. There are also a bunch of other events and lots of new visuals. If you don't fight MOLTRES here, it still shows up in VICTORY ROAD. Your MAGMAR can be upgraded with new abilities here too. This area can be entirely turned off from a new WORLD OPTIONS menu in Player's PC.
-
The POWER PLANT was greatly visually enhanced with a beta tileset originally intended for it from Spaceworld 97. A roof area of the POWER PLANT was added, and a secret area where you can power up your MAGNETON was added. Also, a puzzle with electrical doors was added to the area preventing access to ZAPDOS until you explore around the place and press some buttons to turn them off. The layout is essentially the same, you can just access "the final area" blocked by electrical doors earlier. The map becomes sort of a loop instead of one big line.
-
If you caught GHOST MAROWAK, after defeating GIOVANNI in Viridian City you can bring MAROWAK to the basement of Pokemon Tower to lay it to rest. Fight some spooky spirits based on the weirder gen 1 sprites (they all have unique abilities) and see a touching reunion between GHOST MAROWAK and its child CUBONE! (If you didn't catch it, you can bring a color changed MAROWAK to POKEMON TOWER basement and it'll still work.)
-
ERIK and SARA are NPCs in the original game in FUCHSIA CITY who are looking for each other. Reunite them and go talk to them in the SAFARI ZONE to start a new little adventure where you can visit their house on Route 19 (Sea route below FUCHSIA CITY) and join them in their marine research! You can power up your DRAGONAIR by helping them out. Their house's location is based on an unused house in older map code on route 21. It was moved to route 19 since CINNABAR VOLCANO was placed in the same location on ROUTE 21 instead.
-
You can enter one of the previously unenterable buildings near SILPH CO from a secret entrance. Turns out this building is how TEAM ROCKET snuck into SAFFRON CITY and invaded SILPH CO. so quickly. You can power up your WEEZING here!
-
An NPC in SAFFRON CITY will tell you about signature moves. Certain pokemon get additional power or accuracy with specific moves. EXAMPLE: ACID when used by ARBOK has 100 base power instead of 50.
==QUALITY OF LIFE==
-
PC Item space increased to 60 up from the original game's 50.
-
On every option menu you can now press SELECT to have the game explain whatever option you're pointing at.
-
The MOVEDEX can now be sorted alphabetically. Switch between sorting modes by pressing SELECT in the movedex.
-
The ITEMFINDER can now detect hidden coins in the GAME CORNER.
-
The SS ANNE captain will let you enter the SS ANNE area without a ticket after helping him. Also he will get rid of your ticket so it doesn't take up space in your storage.
-
You can order food in the kitchen while on the SS ANNE. This heals your pokemon.
-
You can view the contents of a PC box by pressing SELECT while scrolled to WITHDRAW, even if your party is full. Lets you view the status of pokemon in the box, but you can't withdraw them.
-
The game will now show whether a pokemon has an APEX CHIP applied to it on the status screen of the pokemon.
-
You can use a wider array of glyphs in player/pokemon nicknames. For example, you can now use numbers in pokemon/player nicknames.
-
A .cheats file was added to the repository. If you want to know game shark codes for pureRGB, check that file. It's pretty barebones currently but you can request additions if you want.
==VISUALS==
-
Fast currents in Seafoam Islands are now visually shown. They will move a bit slower on SGB / Original Game Boy due to processing speed limitations.
-
Static Pokemon Encounters (MEWTWO/ARTICUNO (in the volcano)/MOLTRES/ZAPDOS/SNORLAX) now have fancy animations before the battle begins.
-
A New color mode, Y2 was added. It's basically the same colors as Y (Yellow's original colors) but adjusted to look like they would if you were playing on an original GBC screen. This means they're less intense visually.
-
In DIGLETT's CAVE, if you have OG+ Icons mode turned on, DIGLETTs will pop up and down, hiding from you as you approach them.
-
The BIKE SHOP was enhanced with untranslated japanese text (now translated, such as its name MIRACLE CYCLE), some additional tiles that are only used in the link cable multiplayer areas just so you at least see then in normal gameplay, and a bit more text for flavour on these new objects. Some beta tiles were also repurposed to be used as signs inside the shop.
-
A new front sprite was added for FARFETCH'D based on the Red/Green sprite but enhanced quite a bit.
-
7 New alternate front sprite choices were added on a new options page: RG SPEAROW, RB FARFETCHD, RG GOLDUCK, RG SCYTHER, SW JYNX, RG OMANYTE, YELLOW ARTICUNO
-
The following Spaceworld Back Sprites were tweaked: FARFETCHD, DRAGONAIR, DODRIO, PINSIR, SCYTHER
-
RAGE's animation was improved.
-
BONEMERANG and BONE CLUB's animations were improved.
-
FIREWALL's animation was improved when using the "powered up" version.
-
CONVERSION's animation was improved
-
SONICBOOM's animation was improved
-
When using POKE DOLL in battle it has an animation now.
-
In Celadon City, you can enable an unused rainbow palette that was intended for the city by talking to the "City of Rainbow Dreams" sign. You can talk to it again to turn it off. It looks a bit weird if you're playing on GBC (colors shift around when text is visualized on screen), but on SGB it's more consistent since this was what the original code was intended for.
==TRAINER AI CHANGES==
-
Elite Four Lance and Champion Rival have fully customized movesets for their pokemon now.
-
Most trainers wont use boosting moves if that stat is already maxed out.
-
For trainers with type advantage AI code, Moves that have no effect such as thunderbolt on a ground pokemon will be discouraged even more than not very effective moves are.
==MOVE CHANGES==
-
SIGNATURE MOVES were added to the game. For specific pokemon, specific moves will get additional power or accuracy. Example: POISON STING on BEEDRILL will have 45 base power instead of 15. An NPC in SAFFRON CITY can tell you which pokemon and which moves get bonuses.
-
DEFENSE CURL now makes all SUPER EFFECTIVE moves to normal (1x) damage to the user. It can be very useful on pokemon with 4x weaknesses like GOLEM, RHYDON, or other bulky pokemon.
-
DOUBLESLAP now does double damage on sleeping pokemon, but causes them to wake up.
-
SONICBOOM was made a priority move. GHOST type, with 50 power. If you use it on the first turn a pokemon can attack, it will always make the opponent flinch.
-
ACID ARMOR now gives a combined effect of REFLECT and LIGHT SCREEN, essentially cutting all damage in half.
-
EXPLOSION and SELFDESTRUCT still have 140 power and do heavy recoil, but if you use them when you have less than 1/3 health left, they will behave as they originally did. Their power will be 250, they will cut the opponent's defense in half, but your pokemon will always faint after using it. Also, if EXPLOSION / SELFDESTRUCT miss in "recoil mode" they will now do 1/4 of your health in recoil.
-
BONEMERANG now has 60 power, 95 accuracy, hits twice. 30% chance of reducing opponent speed. Also, it can hit FLYING types for neutral damage unlike other GROUND type moves.
-
FIREWALL was greatly enhanced. Now it has 90 accuracy, and starts with 20 base power. Always burns the opponent. If you use it on a burned opponent, power increases to 40. If you use it again on the same opponent, power increases to a maximum of 80. If the user is at least level 50, it increases first to 80 base power and up to a maximum of 140 power.
-
CONVERSION has an entirely new set of effects. When you use CONVERSION, the user can convert between two modes, ATTACK mode and DEFENSE mode. DEFENSE mode cuts all damage in half. ATTACK mode will choose a specific attack that is always super effective against the opponent, but will turn off DEFENSE mode.
-
Movesets were tweaked to balance with the above changes.

PureRGB - v2.6.0
See https://github.com/Vortyne/pureRGB/blob/master/FEATURES.md for the full features documentation.
----SETUP INSTRUCTIONS START----
Scroll to the bottom of this page and download the BPS patch file for the version you want from the file list below. Use Floating IPS or an online patcher to patch pokemon blue for PureBlue or PureGreen. Patch pokemon red for PureRed.
Always use these patch files on the original english game. Don't try to use any on a game that's already been patched.
----SETUP INSTRUCTIONS END----
The game now has a save file updater. If you use a save file from a previous version or even the original game, the game will update the save and everything should work fine. Please indicate whether you came from an earlier version or the original game when the game asks. It will also ask you whether to warp to PALLET TOWN. It is recommended to warp to PALLET town when you update your save. Otherwise you might end up in a glitched position.
Patch Notes
New Features:
==NEW AREAS / EVENTS==
-
An Entirely new CINNABAR VOLCANO area was added based off of beta/prerelease content.
==QUALITY OF LIFE==
-
PC Item space increased to 60 up from the original game's 50.
-
On every option menu you can now press SELECT to have the game explain whatever option you're pointing at.
-
The MOVEDEX can now be sorted alphabetically.
==VISUALS==
-
Fast currents in Seafoam Islands are now visually shown.
==TRAINER AI CHANGES==
-
Elite Four Lance and Champion Rival have fully customized movesets for their pokemon now.
-
Most trainers wont use boosting moves if that stat is already maxed out.
-
For trainers with type advantage AI code, Moves that have no effect such as thunderbolt on a ground pokemon will be discouraged even more than not very effective moves are.
==MOVE CHANGES==
-
SIGNATURE MOVES were added to the game.
-

Movesets were tweaked to balance with the above changes.
==AUDIO CHANGES==
-
The game's unused fanfare sound effect has been used in a couple of new events such as the VOLCANO area.
-
If you turn on OG+ MUSIC, 6 pokemon cries (GOLDEEN, DITTO, OMANYTE, VILEPLUME, POLIWHIRL, RHYHORN) will sound slightly different so they aren't exact copies of other pokemon's cries. (CATERPIE, POLIWHIRL, MACHOP, AERODACTYL, WIGGLYTUFF...

----SETUP INSTRUCTIONS START----
Scroll to the bottom of this page and download the IPS patch file for the version you want from the file list below. Use Lunar IPS or an online patcher to patch pokemon blue for PureBlue or PureGreen. Patch pokemon red for PureRed.
Always use these patch files on the original english game. Don't try to use any on a game that's already been patched.
----SETUP INSTRUCTIONS END----
Any v2.5.0 or higher save file should work in this new version - but I would recommend loading the save normally rather than loading a save state. You may experience strange behaviour if you load a save state during something that I have changed between v2.0 and the current version. If you are stuck in place on loading the save in the new version, use Fly, Teleport, or Pocket Abra to fix the issue. If you get a really bad bug on loading your save, try going to somewhere else on the old version (Viridian city pokemon center is a good choice), and saving there instead, then loading on the new version again.
v2.5.5 Patch Notes
BUGFIXES
Fixed for Bugs in the Original Game
- BUG: Oak's text is messed up when receiving pokeballs from him. FIX: Put the messed up text on the next line of dialogue to fix it.
- BUG: Safari zone east's sign is incorrect in its directions. FIX: Put the correct directions.
Fixes for Bugs I caused:
- BUG: Only one of the hidden items on Route 25 was obtainable, not both. FIX: Fix the incorrect assignment due to the Bill's Garden Changes in version 2.4
- BUG: Weird glitches on hooking a fished pokemon. FIX: Fix the error in optimized code I made in 2.5.4
- BUG: Moves with side effects like MEDITATE, SHARPEN where they can raise multiple stats could do things like say "Nothing happened!" twice if both stats are maxed, or not display the move animation if the first stat was maxed but the second one wasn't. FIX: Make "Nothing happened!" only display once if both are maxed, and make the move animation always play as expected if the move worked.
TWEAKS
- Scyther starts with the move SHARPEN now. Seems like it makes sense.

v2.5.4 Patch Notes
BUGFIXES
Fixes for Bugs I caused:
- BUG: Daisy's tea event just doesn't work in some situations due to her sitting sprite being hidden in normal gameplay if you get the town map early in the game FIX: Hide her walking sprite after calling your rival from celadon with the payphone and show her sitting sprite
- BUG: Giovanni can skip turns erroneously if he tries to use DIRE HIT with a 20% chance each turn, but due to your pokemon appearing dangerous, decides not to. FIX: Attack instead of just doing nothing that turn
- BUG: Very old bug from the original release of pureRGB in which buying coins at the game corner can unhide certain NPCs and items. Including the X Special x2 in pewter city, and the rocket who gives you TM28 in cerulean city. FIX: Stop writing to a byte of wram used for game NPC hide show states incorrectly with this coin purchase code.
- BUG: Viewing the pokedex area function of a pokemon that can appear in good rod encounters in salt water after obtaining the FISHING GUIDE can cause battle sprites to glitch out. FIX: When in battle, never check a specific flag that can been set by the pokedex functions to change where back sprites get loaded. (this bug was really hard to find)
