For those not familiar with the PEP process, this normally involves the following:

1. write the PEP (and pick a PEP number, i.e. the next available one)
2. make a PR against https://github.com/python/peps
3. merge the PR
4. post the PEP to python-dev@python.org
5. discussion (often slow due to timezones, etc.)
6. if PEP needs updating then do so and go back to (2)
7. ask the Steering Council for pronouncement (it goes to the back of their queue)
8. wait until they have a chance to discuss/decide (their schedule isn't fixed though they usually meet at least weekly)
9. if PEP needs updating then do so and go back to (2)
10. update PEP with outcome
11. if is accepted then move forward with implementation

As you can see, this process usually isn't all that speedy.
