I am the author of this project. I have also provided the prototype program for this, showing exactly what I intended to do using vanilla JS.
I could have further read and decipher the GNOME and Cinnamon Docs, but I really don't have much time to dedicate on this project. I might make a website later, but right now, I am really not in the condition to make a proper Cinnamon desklet based on this.
I just have one wish: Could you guys please make a white-coloured (or any coloured as you guys wish) text for the percentage display (along with the edge cases; also, please use the % sign when representing the percentage).
I have even tried to make a tutorial of sorts (please refer to Part 0 only for going to the other parts), I'll post the final part in the meantime. It's not exactly a tutorial but more of a deep-dive... I have corrected the wrongly written stuff in the later parts

I actually mixed my official GitHub and personal GitHub, so I had to completely delete that fork and had to newly fork it. That's exactly why all the commits linked in that post will definitely be obsolete now.
