Description

  • fixes native SUI amount parsing
  • adds missing tokens parsing
  • fixes missing cross-account Tx on the receiving side

Issue (if applicable)

Risk

High Risk PRs Require 2 approvals

Low

What protocols, transaction types, wallets or contract interactions might be affected by this PR?

SUI chain - fixes amount parsing for native SUI and token transfers in transaction history for both self-sends and cross-account transactions.

Testing

Engineering

  • Try with both self-sends/same-account swaps and cross-account sends/swaps
  • ensure SUI and token amounts are correct in Tx history
  • sanity check cross-chain for second-class EVM chains

Operations

  • 🏁 My feature is behind a flag and doesn't require operations testing (yet)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • More accurate Sui transaction parsing: captures transfers previously unreported (including self-sends and programmable-transaction-driven transfers), filters out gas-only changes, and better aligns displayed amounts and asset identifiers.
  • Improvements
    • Action confirmations for second-class chains now notify and update multiple related accounts and stop polling when parsing isn't available.

Native amounts are currently doubled for same-chain second-class EVM Txs (sends/swaps) in upserted Txs, when the Tx is a same-account Tx. The reason here is we parse both the `value` and the internal transfer value out of debug RPC call. This ensures deduping, so Tx value is not doubled in Tx history.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The PR adds PTB (programmable transaction block) parsing and coinType normalization to Sui tx parsing, revises balance-change filtering to ignore gas-only deltas, and updates the send-action subscriber to parse/upsert transactions for multiple accounts in parallel for second-class chains.

Changes

Cohort / File(s) Summary
Sui Transaction Parsing
packages/chain-adapters/src/sui/SuiChainAdapter.ts
Added private normalizeCoinType() and parseProgrammableTransactionBlock(); always fetches showObjectChanges; maps status inline; filters balanceChanges (exclude gas-only); combines balance-change and PTB-derived transfer extraction (native vs token, self-send, cross-account).
Multi-Account Send Action Subscriber
src/hooks/useActionCenterSubscribers/useSendActionSubscriber.tsx
When confirmed for second-class chains, derive accountIdsToUpsert (from accountIdsToRefetch or default) and parse/upsert in parallel via Promise.all; dispatch separate messages per account; early-exit and interval cleanup if adapter lacks parseTx.

Poem

🐇 I hopped through PTBs and padded coin types neat,
SplitCoins, transfers — I matched each tiny feat,
Multi-account parse runs in parallel cheer,
Self-sends and tokens now appear crystal clear,
A rabbit's little hop for transactions complete.

Pre-merge checks and finishing touches

✅ Passed checks (5 passed)
Check name Status Explanation
Description Check ✅ Passed Check skipped - CodeRabbit’s high-level summary is enabled.
Title check ✅ Passed The title 'feat: sui Tx parsing fixes' directly corresponds to the main objective of fixing SUI transaction parsing for amounts, token transfers, and cross-account visibility.
Linked Issues check ✅ Passed Code changes address all three linked issues: normalizeCoinType and parseProgrammableTransactionBlock fix token parsing [#11528]; PTB-based amount extraction and filtering exclude gas fees for native SUI [#11525]; useSendActionSubscriber update handles cross-account sends for both sender and recipient [#11530].
Out of Scope Changes check ✅ Passed All changes are directly related to SUI transaction parsing objectives. SuiChainAdapter additions handle coin type normalization and PTB parsing; useSendActionSubscriber changes enable cross-account transaction visibility through parallel account processing.
Docstring Coverage ✅ Passed No functions found in the changed files to evaluate docstring coverage. Skipping docstring coverage check.

586-589: Consider removing or guarding debug logs before production release.

Multiple console.log statements (lines 586-589, 611, 647-654, 724-727, 777-791) log detailed transaction data. While helpful for debugging the new PTB parsing, they may clutter production logs. Consider wrapping them with a debug flag or removing them once the feature is stable.

Learning: gomesalexandre maintains strict scope discipline even for style/UI PRs in shapeshift/web, declining functionally correct UX improvements (like keeping Cancel button enabled during gas simulation loading) when they fall outside the PR's stated styling objectives, demonstrating his consistent pattern of deferring valid but tangential improvements to separate efforts.

Learning: In the ShapeShift web Base chain handling, the await pattern inside forEach in useGenericTransactionSubscriber is intentional to delay the entire action completion flow (not just fetchBasePortfolio) for Base chain transactions. The user kaladinlight wants everything below the Base portfolio refresh - including dispatch, query invalidation, and toast notifications - to also be delayed by ~10 seconds to accommodate Base's degraded node state.

Learning: In packages/chain-adapters/src/tron/TronChainAdapter.ts, the parseTx method uses `unknown` type for the txHashOrTx parameter intentionally. TRON is a "second-class chain" that works differently from other chains - it accepts either a string hash (to fetch TronTx via unchained client) or a TronTx object directly. The base chain-adapter interface is strongly typed and doesn't accommodate this flexible signature, so `unknown` is used as an appropriate escape hatch rather than a type safety issue.

164-191: LGTM! Multi-account parsing logic is well-structured.

The parallel parsing via Promise.all correctly handles multiple accounts (sender + recipient if held), and the early exit when parseTx is unavailable properly cleans up the polling interval before returning.

One minor observation: if any individual parseTx call fails within Promise.all, the entire batch fails and falls through to the catch block at line 192. This is acceptable behavior since completeAction is still called afterward, but be aware that partial failures won't dispatch any messages.

packages/chain-adapters/src/sui/SuiChainAdapter.ts (6)

561-569: Unused destructured variable _objects.

Per coding guidelines, when function parameters are unused due to interface requirements, consider refactoring. However, since this is array destructuring to access the second element, the underscore prefix is acceptable here.

656-665: Gas fee filtering logic looks correct.

The filtering correctly excludes balance changes that represent only gas fees by comparing absolute amounts against the computed fee. Note that in the unlikely edge case where a real transfer amount exactly equals the gas fee, it would be incorrectly filtered. This is an acceptable trade-off for the common case.

688-704: Transfer type classification and value extraction look correct.

The logic properly:

  1. Classifies transfers as Contract when the owner address doesn't match the pubkey (line 689)
  2. Uses PTB-derived amount for native SUI sends to exclude gas fees (lines 694-698)
  3. Constructs from/to arrays appropriately

706-773: Well-designed PTB fallback for self-sends and filtered transfers.

The fallback logic correctly handles:

  1. Self-sends (sender === recipient) by creating both Send and Receive transfers
  2. Cross-account sends from sender's perspective
  3. Cross-account receives from recipient's perspective
  4. Token transfers using ptbCoinType to derive the correct assetId

This addresses the PR objectives for same-account/self-send transactions showing correct amounts instead of gas fees.

628-637: Good defensive guard for missing gas data.

The guard !gasUsed ? undefined : {...} properly handles edge cases where tx.effects?.gasUsed might be undefined, preventing potential runtime errors.

604-604: Necessary addition for PTB parsing.

Enabling showObjectChanges: true is required for the new parseProgrammableTransactionBlock method to correlate coin object IDs with their types for token transfers.

664-664: Critical: Missing coinType normalization causes AssetId mismatches.

The getAccount method normalizes coin types to 66 characters (0x + 64 hex digits) at lines 141-154, but parseTx uses coin types directly from balance changes (line 664) and PTB data (line 704) without normalization. This will cause AssetId mismatches between account tokens and parsed transaction transfers.

🔎 Proposed fix: Normalize coinType before creating AssetIds

Extract the normalization logic to a helper method and apply it consistently:

+  private normalizeCoinType(coinType: string): string {
+    const parts = coinType.split('::')
+    if (parts.length < 2) return coinType
+
+    const address = parts[0]
+    if (!address.startsWith('0x')) return coinType
+
+    // Pad address to 66 characters (0x + 64 hex digits)
+    const hexPart = address.slice(2)
+    const paddedHex = hexPart.padStart(64, '0')
+    parts[0] = `0x${paddedHex}`
+
+    return parts.join('::')
+  }

Then apply normalization in parseTx before creating AssetIds:

       const assetId =
         change.coinType === '0x2::sui::SUI'
           ? this.assetId
           : toAssetId({
               chainId: this.chainId,
               assetNamespace: ASSET_NAMESPACE.suiCoin,
-              assetReference: change.coinType,
+              assetReference: this.normalizeCoinType(change.coinType),
             })
       const assetId = !ptbCoinType
         ? this.assetId
         : toAssetId({
             chainId: this.chainId,
             assetNamespace: ASSET_NAMESPACE.suiCoin,
-            assetReference: ptbCoinType,
+            assetReference: this.normalizeCoinType(ptbCoinType),
           })

And update getAccount to use the extracted method:

- // Normalize coinType to ensure proper format with leading zeros
-          // SUI addresses should be 66 chars (0x + 64 hex chars)
-          const normalizeCoinType = (coinType: string): string => {
-            const parts = coinType.split('::')
-            if (parts.length < 2) return coinType
-
-            const address = parts[0]
-            if (!address.startsWith('0x')) return coinType
-
-            // Pad address to 66 characters (0x + 64 hex digits)
-            const hexPart = address.slice(2)
-            const paddedHex = hexPart.padStart(64, '0')
-            parts[0] = `0x${paddedHex}`
-
-            return parts.join('::')
-          }
-
-          const normalizedCoinType = normalizeCoinType(balance.coinType)
+          const normalizedCoinType = this.normalizeCoinType(balance.coinType)

Timestamp: 2025-12-17T14:50:01.629Z
Learning: In packages/chain-adapters/src/tron/TronChainAdapter.ts, the parseTx method uses `unknown` type for the txHashOrTx parameter intentionally. TRON is a "second-class chain" that works differently from other chains - it accepts either a string hash (to fetch TronTx via unchained client) or a TronTx object directly. The base chain-adapter interface is strongly typed and doesn't accommodate this flexible signature, so `unknown` is used as an appropriate escape hatch rather than a type safety issue.

612-617: LGTM: Inline status computation follows coding guidelines.

The use of an IIFE arrow function for conditional logic aligns with the preference to avoid let assignments.

620-629: LGTM: Fee computation correctly handles undefined gasUsed.

The ternary pattern provides a clear fallback for missing gas data.

677-681: LGTM: PTB amount correctly excludes gas fees.

Using PTB transfer amount for native SUI sends ensures the displayed transfer value excludes gas fees, fixing issue #11525.

689-751: LGTM: PTB-based transfers correctly handle cross-account and self-send cases.

The implementation addresses the PR objectives:

  • Lines 707-724: Self-sends create both Send and Receive transfers
  • Lines 726-736: Sender-initiated transfers create Send transfer
  • Lines 738-748: Recipient-initiated transfers create Receive transfer

This ensures transactions appear correctly for both sender and recipient accounts, fixing issue #11530.

640-648: The strict equality comparison is correct and no tolerance range is needed. Both change.amount and fee.value are converted to BigInt, which performs exact integer arithmetic with no rounding. The fee itself is deterministically calculated from SUI API's gasUsed fields, and both values use the same precision model from the transaction response. If they don't match exactly, it's not a gas-only change.

753-753: No duplicate transfer risk - guard prevents both sources from populating simultaneously.

The guard at line 691 ensures transfersFromPtb returns an empty array whenever actualTransferChanges has any items. Since transfersFromBalanceChanges is populated from actualTransferChanges, this creates a mutually exclusive pattern: either the balance changes source contains transfers (and PTB is empty) or no actual transfers exist in balance changes (filtered as gas-only) and PTB provides the fallback. Duplicates cannot occur because both arrays are never populated at the same time.

packages/chain-adapters/src/sui/SuiChainAdapter.ts (1)

642-650: Potential edge case: filtering legitimate transfers equal to gas fee.

The filter removes SUI balance changes where absoluteChange === feeAmount (line 649). If a user sends exactly the amount that equals the gas fee in a separate transfer, this logic could incorrectly filter it out.

However, given the PTB fallback logic (lines 692-753) and the extreme rarity of this scenario, this is acceptable for the current implementation.

Learning: In src/hooks/useActionCenterSubscribers/useThorchainLpActionSubscriber.tsx, kaladinlight prefers not to await the upsertBasePortfolio call in the Base chain handling block, indicating intentional fire-and-forget behavior for Base portfolio upserts in the THORChain LP completion flow.

Learning: In src/pages/RFOX/hooks/useRfoxRewardDistributionActionSubscriber.tsx, the guard `if (!actions[actionId]) return` before upserting completed reward distributions is intentional product behavior. NeOMakinG confirmed that the system should only show completion notifications for reward distributions that were previously seen in a pending state, not for distributions the user missed during the pending phase.

Timestamp: 2025-11-19T16:59:50.569Z
Learning: In src/context/WalletProvider/*/components/Connect.tsx files across the ShapeShift web codebase, the established pattern for handling null/undefined adapter from getAdapter() is to simply check `if (adapter) { ... }` without an else clause. All wallet Connect components (Coinbase, Keplr, Phantom, Ledger, MetaMask, WalletConnectV2, KeepKey, Vultisig) follow this pattern—they reset loading state after the if block but do not show error messages when adapter is null. This is an intentional design decision and should be maintained for consistency.

Learning: In fox farming components, the `opportunity?.rewardsCryptoBaseUnit?.amounts` property has a well-defined type signature that is always an array (never undefined), but can be empty: `readonly [] | readonly [string, string, string] | readonly [string, string] | readonly [string]`. Using optional chaining on the `amounts` property itself is unnecessary since it's always defined, though accessing `amounts[0]` on an empty array returns undefined which bnOrZero() handles safely.

138-138: LGTM! Consistent coinType normalization across methods.

The extraction of normalizeCoinType to a class method and its consistent application in getAccount (line 138), parseTx balance changes (line 666), and PTB-derived transfers (line 706 via line 585) resolves the AssetId mismatch issue flagged in the previous review.

Also applies to: 506-521, 666-666, 706-706

src/hooks/useActionCenterSubscribers/useSendActionSubscriber.tsx (2)

169-177: LGTM! Defensive early exit for chains without parseTx.

The check for adapter.parseTx existence (line 169) with early action completion prevents runtime errors for chains that don't implement transaction parsing while still marking the action as complete.

164-191: LGTM! Multi-account parsing supports cross-account transactions.

The parallel parsing for all accountIdsToUpsert (lines 180-191) correctly handles both sender and recipient accounts for cross-account transactions, directly addressing PR objective #11530.

Note that Promise.all will cause all account parsing to fail if any single account fails, but the outer try-catch (lines 192-195) handles this appropriately with silent failure and logging, consistent with the existing error handling pattern.
